The Quality of Health
I recently had a brief online comment discussion with a colleague regarding health and the human experience. I had made a comment regarding a quote by Thomas Jefferson that used health as an analogy for a political issue.

The discussion evolved to considerations that essentially concerned the quality of health. We were each approaching the subject from different angles which pointed out some unique observational perspectives.

The World Health Organization defines health as: "Optimum physical, mental and emotional well-being, and not merely the absence of disease."

Some would see the word optimum and sense that it is a potentially unattainable state. If it is unattainable what does one have if not at the "optimum" level? Is it a lack of health? Does one lack for enjoyment if not at optimum? Should one self criticize if not there?

It seems there is a sliding scale involved. And like all things a sliding scale may be applied to, the level of comfort, contentment, or happiness on the scale is determined by the one experiencing it. This allows one to be both content with what has been achieved, as well as the option to pursue greater.

And ultimately a point that many have often overlooked, is that simply being disease-free is not the equivalent of being healthy. The sliding scale is like a flowing river, nothing is static. Your choices and actions are constantly moving you toward greater or lesser health.

Both the quantity and duration of abnormal functions are factors leading to states one may label as disease. But on the sliding scale, one must often move for quite a period of time through "less health" before reaching that label state.

Are you healthy during that period?

Health, like life itself, requires constant effort.

It's never too late to do a good thing.

Increase Your Brainpower
I love to use analogies. They really work for me and I find I can communicate ideas pretty well to others with them. So here’s one about how your brain works. Who remembers the kinetic watches? They had a battery in them that stayed charged up from the movement and motion of your wrist and arm as you went about your daily activities. And as long as there was movement and the battery was charged, the battery powered the watch and all was well. Well, your body runs and charges your brain in much the same fashion. That’s why there are a plethora of studies that indicate exercise is equally as effective for combating depression as any medication ever made. Movement has a powerful impact on brain function. But more specifically, there is an area of sensory input for your brain that is more powerful than all the others. The most powerful area of sensory input for your brain is from the mechanoreceptors located in your spine and its joints. When you maintain full, normal, appropriate motion of all your spinal segments, your brain is “fed” energy via sensory input at a few hundred cycles (signals) per second. So again, movement charges the brain, and the brain in return has the power to control and coordinate the body and its functions, as well as to maintain normal moods, emotions, behaviors and processing power.  When you have areas of limited movement or mobility in your spinal joints, the sensory input is slowed down and the brain becomes “sluggish” in regards to all functions it performs. This is just another of the many reasons that every human benefits from proper chiropractic spinal care.  www.bradpennington.com303-820-3336

The Most Powerful Hormone?
Vitamin D is actually a hormone; and one of the most powerful and important in our body. Proper sun exposure is essential to health or you should be supplementing.

Many have been falsely led to believe that the sun is bad for us, which couldn't be farther from the truth. We have built in mechanisms to produce Vitamin D and to protect us from getting too much.

Check out this article.

The MRI showed 2 disc bulges.

So she went through steroid injections and a year of physical therapy.

Result? Same pain. But a few chiropractic visits later-miraculous changes.

Am I saying anything negative about physical thereapy? NO.

I am saying that adjustments are often overlooked when people get the scary diagnosis of "anything disc". But most often it's the "crooked and stuck" vertebrae I deal with that is causing the disc issue in the first place.

Just dont let a disc scare you away from chiropractic care, you could be missing your miracle.

As easy as a handshake.

Many don't know that chiropractic care is beneficial for children, or even if it could possibly be safe to do so.

Fair enough, it's hard to be educated about everything in todays society, there are many issues that each of us hold to be valuable and pertinent (or not) in our personal lives.

Well, it's as safe and as easy as a handshake.

A handshake is different, unique, and modified whether its between men, a man and a woman, or an adult and a child. The same is true for a chiropractic adjustment given for the various sizes, shapes and needs of adults or children. It's modified appropriately and is just as safe.

Now the question of why would a child need or get an adjustment. Hmmmm. Well, because they've got a spine. Why do they need to take care of their teeth? Because they're there. Same with the spine and joints of a child.

Why wait until they are an adult, suffering from pain, joint deterioration and nerve interference when that could have been prevented or minimized?

"They don't complain of pain, and they're so resilient".

Sure, but have you ever noticed how many kids get cavities but they never had any pain? I've seen it. Should the parent have waited until the tooth was painful? (Gee, I should be writing for a dentist.) Well hopefully you get the idea.

But most of all, it's safe. I've adjusted mine since they were an hour old. Not randomly, just the specific location that could use the smallest of tune-ups to restore mobility after childbirth. And chiropractic liability insurance is about the same as your auto insurance - the least of any health professional.

Were your children born? If so, they could benefit from chiropractic care. Why? Because they have a spine.
